Ed Sheeran loses the use of a finger during Cyprus Concert
Larnaca, Cyprus – International music sensation Ed Sheeran was forced to adapt his setlist during his concert in Larnaca on Saturday, September 7th, after losing the use of one of his fingers while performing on stage in front of 20,000 fans.
The incident occurred during the penultimate show of Sheeran’s acclaimed “Mathematics” world tour at the Land of Tomorrow events venue in Larnaca, Cyprus.
"...I'm gonna do first aid while I sing the next song"
As he performed his hit song “I will always love you for what it’s worth” audience members at the front of the crowd noticed blood streaming from his fingers.
Sheeran, ever the professional, finished performing the song and then told his fans “I’ve cut my finger open, so I’m gonna do first aid while I sing the next song”.
Although clearly unsettled by the incident, he quickly introduced his first aid assistant “Mickey” and then sat down and began performing his massive hit single “Thinking out loud”, asking fans to sing along.
This was an unexpected turn of events in what is a very slick and well rehearsed show.
"If it sounds bad..."
After treatment, he explained that a pool of blood had formed on the stage and that he would have to play the rest of the show with three fingers rather than four. With an added touch of humor, he joked, “If it sounds bad, then it’s just good memory isn’t it?”, which was greeted by cheers from the audience.
The show didn’t sound bad at all and the crowd was amazed by Sheeran’s dedication and professionalism, applauding his determination to carry on despite the injury.
The show was a resounding success, with fans delighted to see Sheeran perform what is the biggest concert ever to be held in Cyprus.
Despite the injury, Sheeran is determined to perform the final show of his “Mathematics” tour in Larnaca on Sunday, September 8th, 2024.
Earlier in the evening, Sheeran revealed that while this was his first concert in Cyprus, he had fond memories of visiting the island as a child for a family holiday.
Meanwhile, rumours that a “very special” guest would join him on stage during his time here in Cyprus did not materialise during the first show. As a result, expectations are high for his second show on the Island which is later today (Sunday 8th of September).
