Protaras is lively during the summer season (April to October each year) but very quiet in the winter, with just a handful of places remaining open.

Protaras is popular with tourists and many Cypriots too. This is because many residents of Nicosia own holiday homes in or near Protaras and spend most summer weekends here.

The town is known for its beaches (especially Fig Tree Bay). It’s also home to the limestone Church of Profitis Ilias and Konnos Beach, and the Cape Greco National Forest Park are nearby.
